Every year there are approximately 5.3 million children who have to be hospitalized due to various conditions (Reid & Fang). Some of these include medical conditions, surgeries, and injuries. But the most common reason for pediatric hospitalization is respiratory conditions. Respiratory conditions are the reason behind about 40% of hospital stays for children 0-4 years old (Weiss, Liang, & Martin). These conditions usually start young, which is the reason that most of the patients in hospitals with these conditions are under 5 years of age. But some conditions, such as Lung Cancer, are not detected or developed for many years, so it is not only children who suffer from these conditions. There have been cures developed for many of these conditions, such as surgeries, antibiotics, and inhalers, but scientists and doctors are still working with others. We hope to develop cures for all of them in the future, and hope that we can save more kids from the hospital visits that many of them are forced to endure. We, the volunteers, at Create for Kids, hope to help many of these children feel special and happier, during their stays at the hospital, no matter what the condition.
